I don’t know about you but I definitely felt that 2018 was the year of travel!

I remember flying back from Lagos, Nigeria at the start of the year and setting myself a challenge. I would travel to 12 countries; 12 countries for each month of the year. I had two trips planned and booked at the time, Bali and New Delhi. Needless to say, a part of me thought I wouldn’t achieve it so I didn’t say anything on social media LOL. But guess what? I did. In 2018, I travelled 14 times, went to 13 different countries and over 20 cities. Only five of the trips were done solo travel.

I’m now at 65 countries visited! This year, my goal is to travel to five new countries with a minimum of two being in Africa! This doesn’t mean I won’t travel to other places during the year but they won’t be a priority.

Now the question which I get asked the most is how I have enough time to go away as frequently as I do. Firstly, I spent roughly six months of the year not working which meant my time was my own and I could do as I pleased. In hindsight, If I had used my time more effectively, I could have done at least 20 countries in my opinion.

When I was working. I planned every single trip in advance, I used my statutory days effectively to give me more days off without wasting my holiday allowance. I also relied heavily on weekends. Some trips I would book over a weekend so I wouldn’t have take too much time off. For other trips a weekend was all I needed, I wouldn’t take any days off at all. I think  something important to consider when planning a trip is how many days do you actually need? I think one of the biggest mistakes people make is booking more days than whats needed. For many European trips I was happy to fly out Friday night and return Sunday night. For others, I would book only the Friday or Monday off just to give me an extra day if needed.

As always, I’m happy to answer any questions or give out tips on specific locations etc. A majority of the locations below have post that have recommendation, just browse the site and you’ll find it. Otherwise, drop me an email and I will reply. Thank you for keeping up with my travels! And if you were wondering Phuket and New Delhi were my favourite destinations!
